Nylon News Magazine Shares Hairstyles From French Catwalks

"IT'S SUPER HAIR"

"Hair turned into the Leaning Tower of Pisa during Milan Fashion Week. But does it work off the runway. In Milan, pajamas turned into daywear, zippers became valentines, and Popeye was embraced as a fashion icon. But the strangest trend by far was big hair. And by big we don’t mean a bit windswept; from Fendi to Moschino to MaxMara, models gave Amy Winehouse a run for her money with hair that threatened to topple over—or attack—at any moment. If you want to look like a walking cotton candy machine, you’ll need loads of hair gel and a fair amount of patience to perfect the look. First, spray your strands with heavy-duty hair spray, flip your head over, and brush out the underside of hair. Once you’ve got major volume, flip back upright, sleek back the hair on the side of your head with hair gel, and spritz another round of hairspray onto the ends of your hair. Start teasing out the ends and don’t stop until it literally looks like a bird is trapped somewhere in there. A few well-placed bobby pins should hold the thing up, in case a half bottle of gel doesn’t do the trick. But really, after all that trouble would you even want to walk out of the house with a proverbial rat’s nest on your head?"

Model Sessilee Lopez, shown at right and below, has a great look, INHO.She's teased and blown and hairsprayed and then gathered and then she has a ponytail flair-up. If you'd like to see more of Sessilee, click here.

Following are some reader comments from Nylon Magazine's article on this hairstyle trend.

Nichole 09/29/2008: It's a well known fact that anything on the runway is going to be outrageous to get attention, it's a matter of interpreting these over the top ideas into something that CAN be done at home. I don't think the right and left pictures shown would work, but the middle lady doesn't seem so outlandish to where it would look out of place on the streets or at work.

Mily 09/29/2008: Runway means over the top but it can translate to street walk.

Ava 10/02/2008: the worst reason catwalk style doesn't end up on the street is just a matter of people being afraid to look "extreme" compared to all the other everyday slobs. muster some courage and try it. i think this hair is awesome. besides, smooth perfect hair was never hot.

DANILYNN 10/02/2008: I don't think a bird's nest is sloppy if you take the time to do it. I think it can be original and eye-catching (of course). Which is what we want to feel like! I say, the bigger, the better!

I agree 100 percent with Nichole 09/29/2008:

I'll be playing with the hair idea - mine won't be so wild, but I'll play with the hairstyle. I know my daughter probably already is in Los Angeles. Why, because it's fun. Same-same gets old! Shake, shake, shake it up, ladies!
